Business Coaching

Most larger businesses have the luxury of a board of directors, but where do small businesses turn for an outside perspective; another way to look at challenges and problems? That was the question Advantage Resources Inc. sought to answer in a recent Small Business Survey. We spoke with private business owners from around the country to learn who they asked for advice and what impact it had on their businesses.

Whether you run a small family-owned business or a large corporation, our survey found it simply makes good business sense to have a , trustworthy advisor.  Every big company or corporation has a board. They’re inside-outsiders; they know the industry and the business and what’s going on, but they’re not so close they lose sight of the big picture. Advantage Resources Inc.’s Client’s businesses may be “small”, but engaging an experienced business coach gives owners an Advantage similar to a bigger company’s tool chest. You need objective views of both your business and the challenges confronting it, coupled with the seasoned advice of an experienced Business Coach. By engaging this asset, you are positioned far better than your peers to grow your business in a stable and consistent way.

BUSINESS COACH OR BUSINESS CONSULTANT?

What’s the difference between a business coach and a business consultant? At first glance they may seem similar, but there are major differences beneath the surface.

Business owners hire consultants in order to give them answers to challenges the business is facing. A Business Consultant will focus on a specific area — like logistics improvement, customer service, marketing or succession planning. And most often a business consultant will provide a specific solution to a particular issue – in short they tell a Business Owner what to do, and rarely help with implementation. Consultants then are generally singularly focused in a specific singular area of focus.

A Business Coach, on the other hand, helps business owners arrive at the best answers themselves. While a consultant tells you how to run your business, a Business Coach will help you see a number of ways to solve problems and overcome issues and over time help you learn to see these solutions for yourself. A consultant can be invaluable for a specific problem in the short term, but, in the long run, a coach will make you a better businessperson and will consistently help you grow your business in a stable way.
